Photos Homosassa & Crystal River

March 1-7, 2020

Photos below…click a photo to open the photo gallery.

Manatee Capital of the World. Manatees are gentle, smart, curious creatures sometimes called “sea cows,” since, like land cows, they are herbivores. During the winter especially, herds of manatees flock to the rivers in the towns of Crystal River and Homosassa. Between November and March, there might be hundreds or even up to a thousand manatees in the area around Crystal River and Homosassa.

Favorites: Encountering Manatees, of course! (Watch video and view photos, below…) Catching a variety of fish we’ve never caught before. Cool waterfront bars & restaurants and many were combo bait shop/bar/restaurant.

Fishing: Mangrove Snapper (keepers), Catfish, Ladyfish, Trout

Manatee suddenly appeared right next to our canoe. Scared the crap out of me. I couldn't snap a pic fast enough, but this photo pretty much captures what we saw.

What a fight! Ladyfish are great fish to catch! She kept jumping out of the air and finally jumped clear over the canoe!
